Job Description

This Volunteer Placement is Located in: Kingston, Jamaica

Start Date: June 2024

Placement Length: 12 Months

Language Requirements: English Level 5-Fluent

Open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada Only

The Volunteer’s Role

The primary objective of this placement is to support our partner, the National Conversation Trust Fund of Jamaica in incorporating gender equality and social inclusion into its policies, programs, and services.

As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in strengthening the abilities of the staff by providing engaging training sessions on gender equality concepts and effectively incorporating Gender Equality and Social Inclusion into programming.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Assess staff capabilities in implementing gendered policies, programs, and services
  • Aid in creating and providing training materials and conducting training sessions for staff members from the National Conversation Trust Fund of Jamaica, women’s rights organizations, and environmental organizations on integrating gender equality into their programs using a human-rights-based approach.
  • Assist in developing operational and HR policies.

Essential Requirements:

  • University degree in social/political sciences, international development, human rights, gender studies, women's studies, social work, law, public policy or a related field.

Essential Background:

  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a role focused on fostering gender equality, promoting diversity, and/or advancing women's development initiatives.
  • Experience in providing training and facilitating sessions related to gender equality and social inclusion
  • Experience with government agencies and senior management
  • Minimum of 3 years of

Terms and Conditions

Cuso International's terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your placement. This support package will cover basic living expenses for one volunteer and is not intended to cover home-based expenses (eg. loans, support payments, etc.) or luxury items such as imported items in placement or international personal travel.

Support Package

  • Modest monthly living allowance
  • Accommodation while in placement
  • Round-trip airfare and visa/work permit costs
  • Cost of required vaccinations, antimalarial medication, and health insurance
  • Pre-departure training, in-country orientation and reintegration debriefing
  • On-the-ground support through our Cuso International's Country Program Office
  • Access to Employee Assistance Program while in placement and upon return
  • Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months
